My Story
When I was a little girl, my grandmother and I enjoyed watching The Sound of Music and other movie musicals together almost daily. I would mimic the choreography and sing the songs throughout the house, even using a small wooden ladder to imitate Michelle Pfeiffer's performance of 'Cool Rider' in Grease 2. Remember that classic? If not, you're missing out! ;)
Then one day, my dad brought home the movie 'Amadeus,' and I was mesmerized by the young Mozart playing the piano, proclaiming, "I am going to do that one day," and I did. In 2005, despite having no formal theater training or acting experience, I found myself auditioning for the 5th Avenue Theater's production of Miss Saigon. Prior to this, I had been encouraged to pursue a scientific career, with music and performing relegated to a hobby. As I entered the audition room, I was terrified. But then I proceeded to belt my face off singing a song from Wicked, as if I had nothing to lose. Afterward, the director asked if I had any theater experience, and with unexpected confidence, I replied, "Nope; I can dance and sing. I just need to do them at the same time and I think I can do it." One callback later, I landed a role at one of Seattle's top regional theaters.
This led to years of performances across Seattle at venues like The 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre, and ACT Theatre, as well as opportunities in cabaret, short films, cover bands, and cruise ships. With a degree in Engineering from the University of Washington, I still managed to pursue the performing arts while carving out a career as a project manager in the tech space.
The journey to embrace my artistic dreams was challenging in my household, but I persevered and found my way. Now, as a balanced artist residing in the greater Seattle area with my family, I strive to be creative every day because everyone deserves a chance to fly.
